Gabbro Pass Mine

A guy a know used to heard sheep in the Deadman Lake area when he was younger and he told me about this mine. He found it while watching the sheep one day. That was many years ago and even then the mine was closed off. He managed to lower himself down with a rope about 15 feet before the hole got so small he couldn’t go any farther. Today it is just a small depression in the ground. Who knows how far it used to go down. The dump around the mine doesn’t seem to indicate that it went very deep. Go check it out and see what you think.
There is a vein of some kind of dark-colored stuff (I’m no geologist so I have no idea what it is, but as near as I can tell it looks like some kind of pegmatite) that as far as I have seen runs right through that mine on over as far as Rose Mountain above Chepeta Lake. There are two other places I have found near Deadman Lake where someone has been digging along that vein. It is my guess that this is what they were digging for.
